What is the Osmo Pocket 4K?
It’s a stabilized video camera shooting up to 4K 60! That’s right, 4K 60 and it literally fits in your pocket.
The Osmo Pocket also has some cool features like face tracking, time lapse, slow motion, and panorama. You can shoot in basic mode, letting the camera control the exposure or use pro mode where it gives you more granular control over the exposure.
It takes a micro SD card and has two built-in mics that are better than most internal mics, but for Professional work, you’d likely want to use an external mic.
How I use the Osmo Pocket 4K?
I use it for vlogs, vacation videos, and b-roll. It allows me to get into small spaces and putting it on a selfie-stick, I can emulate a drone shot.
Osmo Pocket 4K Accessories
One advantage to the Osmo Pocket is the plethora of accessories available. You got tripod mounts, water proof cases, wi-fi connectivity, external mics, ND filters and much more. These accessories are a great way to extend this camera and take it to the next level.
Advantages
- Size
- Portability
- Mimo templates, music, Editing. Easy to use.
- Image quality for such a small sensor
- Stability (3-axis gimbal)
- Face track
- 3 x 3 Panorama
- Night shots
- Slow motion
- Time lapse
- Phone as a monitor
- Additional accessories available like the waterproof case
Disadvantages
- FOV could be a bit wider
- No removable battery, have to charge thru cable
- May require a phone for full functionality
- Even though you can do a lot w/o the accessories, you’ll likely need additional accessories like the mic or controller wheel
- Lots of small parts which are easy to misplace.
Osmo Pocket 4K Considerations
- There’s lots of accessories to extend the functionality and many accessories require certain combinations, so you may find yourself tinkering with the accessories or changing setups often. E.G. adding a mic makes it so you can’t use the wi-fi adapter/module.
- There’s a learning curve
- Osmo Pocket Menus/settings
- DJI Mimo App, Editing
- Accessories, Small parts
- Accessory combinations
- Audio adapter (lapel, mic, etc)
Osmo Pocket 4K Review and Recommendation
Yes, A+ for content creators, vloggers, enthusiasts, hobbyists. Like I said, there’s a bit of a learning curve with the menus, Mimo app, and the accessories or combinations. However, every device includes learning curves. My Micro Four-Thirds cameras are no exception either. Bottom-line, remember that your camera is just a tool to help you create content. And you can create some amazing works with the Osmo Pocket ecosystem. If you happen to pick one up after reading this article, let me know in the comments!
